Immigration Speakers

March 29 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Koinonia Sunday School Class will finish its current discussion topic (Immigration) and book on March 29 during the Sunday School hour (9:30 a.m.).

That evening, members of the class and wider church community are invited to come back to church in the evening for a short potluck style meal at 5 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall, before heading back to the Koinonia Classroom for a “wrap-up” conversation with guest speakers.

We will be joined by two guest speakers (via Zoom).

At 5:30 p.m., Zeb Martin’s friend and colleague, Carol Thompson, will join us to describe her experiences working with children at the border after the incidents of child separation during the first Trump Presidency.

Then, at 6:00 p.m., Sarah Quezada will join us to discuss her book, and answer some of those burning questions we have had over the past few months that we couldn’t answer without first hand knowledge.

If you’re unable to make it to the church at that time, we will have the Zoom link active, as well. You can email the church office by Thursday at 3 p.m., if you would like the zoom link. Please contact Zeb Martin or let the church office know if you plan to join so that plans can be made regarding food.

More Information About Our Speakers:

Carol is a 24 year veteran of the Social Security Administration, where she is currently a Technical Expert (so she’s more experienced and knowledgeable than Zeb). In 2021, she was temporarily stationed to Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, where she worked with children who were incarcerated due to the immigration policies of the previous administration.

Sarah is an author, speaker, and advocate. She has a master’s in sociology and her first book, Love Undocumented: Risking Trust in a Fearful World, chronicled her journey through the immigration system with her husband, Billy, who emigrated from Guatemala City. The Quezadas live in Atlanta, Georgia and are raising two bicultural and trilingual-ish kids.
