Worship

Worship
Sunday morning worship at Immanuel begins at 10:30 a.m., with the service available both in person and online via live-stream.
At Immanuel, we recognize that people come to church for different reasons: some are joyful, some sad. Some are angry or hurt. Some seek peace or healing. What unites us is that we are all seeking connection with God through the corporate worship experience. Authentic worship, a fresh encounter with God, results in our transformation as individuals and as a church body.
There are many pathways to God, so during our services we seek to offer a variety of ways to help people connect—through various worship elements such as music, prayers, offerings, and so on.
Throughout each year, we incorporate meaningful aspects from liturgical, traditional, contemporary, and global worship practices in our services.
We seek to infuse creativity within the traditional aspects, and hope that everything we do feels authentic and intentional.

What To Expect
Our Worship Services

Music
We like to say that our worship is “differently blended,” though our overall worship style currently might be described as primarily “traditional/liturgical.”
We sing hymns together as a congregation, and most Sundays, the volunteer sanctuary choir sings an anthem.

Preaching
Each week, our service features a sermon from Pastor Emily or a guest preacher.
In 15-20 minutes the preacher offers a challenging and thoughtful exposition on a particular scripture passage, relating God’s word to our lived experience.

Response
Following the sermon, we are invited to a time of intentional reflection, during which we consider how our worship is calling us to respond to God’s invitation to experience and express God’s unconditional love.
Some may share their response by walking down the aisle to make a commitment to God or to the church, but all are invited and encouraged to consider how God is leading them to live with deepened purpose as they leave the worship space.

Communion
We partake in communion as a congregation on the first Sunday of each month. We believe that the communion table is God’s table – it does not belong to Immanuel Baptist Church, and therefore the table is as open as God’s grace.
All are welcome at the communion table. All are invited to be filled by the overflowing cup of salvation.

Children
Children are active participants and leaders in our worship services.
Each Sunday, we have a Children’s Moment, led by a staff or lay leader who relates the scripture or topic for the day to the children.
We also will often have children and youth lead in different aspects of worship from leading the Call to Worship to playing music. Children are welcome to stay in for the entirety of the service, but children from age 4 – 6th grade are invited to Children’s Church about 20 minutes into the service.
