Immanuel Baptist

Frankfort, Kentucky

At Immanuel Baptist Church, we believe that children should be:

seen…
heard…
celebrated
and serve!

We believe children are a valued and vital part of our church family and we are intentional about including children in all areas of worship, ministry, and fellowship.

Adult leaders are actively involved in the spiritual nurture and care of our children during the time they are with us.

Bible Study leaders engage boys and girls on a personal level and make every effort to ensure each child knows he or she is a special part of our church family and God’s Kingdom.

Children’s Chapel (for 1st – 5th graders) allows boys and girls to assume roles of worship leaders by reading Bible verses and litanies, passing the offering plate, and leading in prayer. Children hear age-appropriate messages and interact with Ms. Lisa as they learn about God’s plan for their life and God’s love for them.

Wednesday night activities for children begin at 5:30 with Rainbow Ringers, our children’s handbell choir for preschool – 6th grade. Boys and girls enjoy fellowship with their parents and other families during our fellowship meals at 6:00. Age-graded children’s choirs and M.I.A. (Ministers In Action) complete the night with music and mission opportunities.

A variety of other special events and activities for children and their families are scheduled throughout the year: Celebrate the Child Day, Daddy-Daughter Date Night, Kids’ Café, Read-a-Rama, Clue Hunt, Sunday lunch at GattiPizza, and a Birthday Party for Jesus, just to name a few.

We are committed to providing opportunities where children can “experience and express God’s unconditional love” at IBC, in Frankfort, and throughout God’s world.

We are a mission oriented church and youth regularly participate in church wide mission projects and ministries.

Youth have accompanied adults on mission trips (i.e. helping at a Detroit Community Center in their summer program, the church’s annual day of sharing with the West Point, KY community) and are also involved in local ministries such as assisting in the church’s Adopt-a-Spot Highway Pick-Up, helping at the soup kitchen, etc.

This year, our youth had opportunities to participate in a 3-day ski retreat at Perfect North, a mini-mission weekend in Owensboro, and a two-day retreat that included ziplining and team building in Indiana and Frankfort. Playing Underground Church has become a favorite activity for our young people.

Other events are scheduled on a regular basis so youth can maintain a sense of fellowship and connectedness. The Sunday morning Bible Study time is often conducted at a local restaurant to allow for a more informal atmosphere.

A Graduate Recognition Breakfast is held each spring in honor of our seniors who graduate from high school and college.

The Youth Ministry exists to help youth develop a growing relationship with God through their discipleship to Jesus Christ engaging them in service to Christ’s cause in the world.

Our Senior Adult ministry is anchored by the XYZ (eXtra Years of Zest) Club which consists of members ages 55 and up.

The purpose of XYZ is:

■ to provide resources and activities that enhance individual spiritual enrichment

■ to provide opportunities for volunteer service involvement that adds meaning to life and increases self esteem, while assisting in meeting care needs of the group, the church family, and the community

■ to provide social and cultural opportunities to enhance the quality of life of members and their guests

XYZ Club meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month for a potluck luncheon, followed by a devotional and reports from club officers. Guest speakers provide programs on various topics of interest to seniors; guest musicians sometimes perform.

XYZ members enjoy day trips to various restaurants and points of interest in central Kentucky. Members frequently participate in various mission & outreach ministries, including Immanuel’s West Point Mission, Frankfort’s Food Pantry, Lexington’s Hope Center, etc. Several members of the group regularly visit homebound friends and friends in local nursing homes.

Immanuel’s Senior Adults serve in all areas of church life including deacon ministry, Sunday Bible study, various church ministry teams, special focus classes and exercise class.

At Immanuel, our Music Ministries are committed to providing a comprehensive church music program of training and presentation. We seek to provide various musical opportunities in this church setting that will:
enrich the individual lives of participants
enrich the corporate worship experiences of the entire congregation
reach out to the Frankfort community
We encourage church musicians of all ages to grow spiritually and musically, mentally and emotionally as they develop and use their God-given musical talents. Our striving for excellence reflects our imaging of God as being worthy of our very best efforts.

In addition, we have a commitment to reach out to and include “non-musicians” and those with limited musical skills in musical opportunities. We believe that everyone has innate musical talents that can be used to worship and serve the Lord.

In other words, there is a place for you in our music ministries!

At Immanuel, we have found that people come to church for different reasons: Some are joyful, some sad. Some are angry. Some seek peace or healing.

Whether or not we are aware of it, all of us are seeking connection with God through the corporate worship experience. Authentic worship, a fresh encounter with God, results in our transformation as individuals and as a church body.

When we meet God in worship and are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for what God is doing and has already done through Jesus Christ, we are changed. Our celebration and service to others are natural outgrowths of that experience.

We believe that our worship is initiated by God. God reveals Godself and we respond to that revelation. And we are intentional about worship.

There are many pathways to God, so during our services we seek to offer a variety of ways to help people connect—through various worship elements such as praise, scripture, prayers, offerings and so on.

Our corporate worship is unlike worship anywhere else! This is because each person in our diverse congregation contributes a unique “flavor” to every worship experience. As our congregation evolves, so do our worship experiences.

Currently we have one Sunday worship service, at 10:30 a.m. in our sanctuary. Throughout each year we incorporate meaningful aspects from liturgical, traditional, contemporary, and global worship practices in our services.

We like to say that each service is “differently blended,” though our overall worship style currently might be described as primarily “traditional/liturgical.”

We hope that you will “come as you are” and join us in worship each Sunday. You’ll find that our congregation is warm, friendly and enthusiastic about worshiping God together!

Classes meet from 9:15 am – 10:15 am on Sundays. (The Gathering, a church-wide fellowship, is the 3rd Sunday of each month, from 9:15 am – 9:35 am.) Our children’s curriculum is age-appropriate, and our adult groups use discussion-based formats.

Lively participation is definitely encouraged! All of our Bible study groups provide opportunities for fellowship, prayer, study, and service.

Since the early 1990’s a small group of artistic Immanuelites has created beautiful banners to enhance our sanctuary and other areas of our church. We are always looking for creative people to join us in these projects.

The photos below illustrate the various banners created by IBC’s Banner Ministry.
